Restoring original firmware

Just perform the manual upgrade as described below with the firmware downloaded from the lBook or Jinke site.

We are aware of minor differences between various V3s, and OpenInkpot may not install properly on your V3. Feel free to ask if you need help! The device is nearly impossible to break by flashing (you can always reflash another firmware if something is screwed up), so it is safe to try a different firmware.

Note that it is only applied to Hanlin v3 / lBook v3 - another devices may use another reflashing scheme and be more fragile.

Automatic upgrade

Run the firmware upgrade from the bookshelf (read the user's manual for instructions). Fails often, so you have to resort to manual upgrade. Recent firmwares just don't have this option, so manual upgrade is the only way to upgrade system.

Manual upgrade

  • Obtain the firmware image (e.g. update from vendor).
  • Unpack archive (if firmware is in archive) and put V3update.bin file to the root of SD card (make sure card is formatted as FAT16, FAT32 won't work).
  • Insert SD card into device.
  • Press '+' key and turn device on while still holding '+' key. Firmware upgrade will start in a few seconds. Release the '+' key.
  • Wait for the end of reflashing.
  • Press any key to boot device.

Error message while updating

If you get "Invalidate File. Please check your update file" error message, check that

  • card is formatted with FAT16
  • V3update.bin (unpacked, not .zip or .rar) is in the root directory of card

If everything looks ok, it may be the problem with formatting - just formatting using FAT16 is not enough apparently with Windows, as it does not support the SD card protocol. Try to format card using this tool.
