Site translation guide

What pages to translate?

  • User-oriented pages for next version currently in development is a first priority.
  • Avoid old pages, e.g. guides for already released versions, except for the last released version.
  • Avoid pages for developers. Developers are expected to know english well enough, or they won't be able to communicate with rest of the team.
  • Ask in IRC or mailing list if in doubt.

Registering new language

  • Find the ISO-639.1 language (not country!) code in  this list (last column).
  • Register the language code on TracLanguages if it is not there, using format <space>*<space><language code><space><native language name>.

How to translate?

  • Create new page with language code as suffix added (e.g. 0.2/InstallationGuide -> 0.2/InstallationGuide/ru).
  • Copy text from English page to newly created one.
  • Translate, substituting the English text with translated and fixing the links to point to localized pages, if such pages already exist.
  • If there were links to this page from the translated ones, fix them to point to newly created.
  • Add [[TranslatedPages]] macro to the top of both original and translated pages. This macro will add sidebar with language selection.

Special pages

  • Translate page TracNav/TOC. Change the links accordingly if localized pages already exist.
  • If original page contains sidebar, changing the [[WikiTrac(TracNav/TOC)]]to [[WikiTrac(TracNav/TOC/<langauge code>)]].
