Translated strings too long for user interface

Sometimes, translated strings are longer than their English counterparts. See "Applikationen" and "Einstellungen" in this screenshot.

There are two solutions:

• use a shorter synonym (although "Einstellungen" is the word commonly used for "Setup" in German...)

• use a smaller font (the menu application would have to resize the font until the string fits into the space)

What would you prefer?
